Superman

If I’m going to be honest, I’ve never actually watched a DC film before… unless you count Lego Batman. However, the trailers and excitement surrounding the new Superman film had me intrigued and actually looking forward to its release. It also meant I could watch it with a completely fresh perspective, free from any preconceived expectations.

I was fortunate enough to attend the multimedia screening of the film, thanks to Warner Bros., and I have to say, I thought it was brilliant. Visually, the film is stunning, every shot feels carefully composed, showcasing James Gunn’s signature style. It’s clear that a great deal of thought went into each frame. Additionally, the action sequences were exceptional – intense, thrilling, and incredibly well-executed. I couldn’t help but feel genuinely impressed while watching them.

One thing I have to point out is that this film is funny! It’s unmistakably a James Gunn production, filled with sharp, witty humour throughout. If you’re expecting a serious, brooding superhero film, this might not be for you. However, I personally felt the humour added an extra layer of charm and made the film all the more enjoyable. In fact, it’s what might just define it as one of the standout films of the summer. And without a doubt, I believe this is a film made for the fans.

Of course, I can’t write about this film without mentioning some of the incredible performances. The standout for me was Nicholas Hoult, who completely embodied Lex Luthor, a villain who’s equal parts unhinged, powerful, and obsessively driven. I truly believe he’s on his way to becoming one of the greatest actors of our time.

And naturally, I have to mention our Superman – David Corenswet. He is Superman. He does a brilliant job of portraying a hero with depth and heart, someone who truly cares about the consequences of his actions. It’s a refreshing take that highlights a more human, vulnerable side of superheroes, something we don’t often see in these kinds of films.

Honestly, there’s very little to dislike about this film. It boasts a stellar cast, thrilling action sequences, stunning visuals, and a beautiful score. When it comes to superhero movies, this is undoubtedly one of the best I’ve seen in recent years. It feels refreshingly different, especially at a time when conversations about superhero fatigue are everywhere.

Superman hits cinemas on July 11th, and even if you weren’t previously invested in DC, like me, I’m confident you’ll find plenty to enjoy.
