’I guess it’s because I used to be a brother. And now i’m not a brother anymore.’
This post is a little bit delayed because I actually saw The Iron Claw at the end of January but went on a little holiday!
The Iron Claw is inspired by the true story of the Von Erich brothers who took part in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s however the family experience deep tragedy and were even believed to be cursed. The film even has to cut out one of the brothers because they believed that would be too much tragedy for the film.
I really loved this film, it was stressful and so sad to watch and I love when a film makes you feel like that, Zac Efron was phenomenal as Kevin Von Erich and deserves so much more credit for this role. One of the final scenes as he watched his kids play had me sobbing and I really hope to see him in more roles like this from now on.
Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson and Stanley Simons played the other three brothers and solidified that special bond they all shared, making the ending even more devastating. I’m conscious not to give too much away but one of the final scenes with these three brother’s was so full of love and emotion it also had me sobbing! It basically had me crying through the whole film and even more when it showed where the family was now.
I really would recommend this film to everyone, even if you aren’t into sports and wrestling as there’s so much more to this story than that, it’s full of love, family, stress and sadness and it’s been a while since a film made me cry like that!
