2023 was the year I finally decided to invest in an Unlimited cinema pass (thanks Cineworld), it’s something I had wanted to do for years and I finally decided to when I saw how many films I wanted to see were coming out this year – this is not an ad but honestly it is so worth it! You can see every film you want and it also opens up opportunities to see films you may not have considered seeing before, I got to see films early with it and there’s nothing like a cinema trip, so I wholeheartedly recommend doing it if your cinema has something similar!
I’m not going to sit here and write a review for every single one of these films (plus you can find some on this blog anyway) but it’s nice to recap every film I’ve seen on the big screen this year!
1.The Super Mario Bros. Movie
This was the first cinema trip of the year for me and it was a fun way to start!
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Did I cry? …maybe
3. Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret
This is arguably the most underrated release of the year, I grew up reading the book so to revisit the story as an adult was really special.
4. The Little Mermaid
I saw The Little Mermaid twice in cinemas (and another 2 times at home) which makes it my most-watched film of the year! and was also my most anticipated, it was always my favourite Disney princess film so I have to add I loved this one even more.
5. Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse
Already waiting impatiently for the third instalment!
6. No Hard Feelings
This was super funny! It’s nice to have some good comedies back.
7. Asteroid City
I loved this despite what others may have said! it was fun, charming and had a great cast.
8. Elemental
This was my first secret screening at Cineworld! Despite many people leaving at the titlecard I stayed and really enjoyed it!
9. Barbie
I love Greta Gerwig so this was a big deal to me! it’s another film I took 2 cinema trips to see and have watched again since and whilst its not my fave Gerwig film, I still loved it.
10. Oppenheimer
Obviously I did partake in Barbeinheimer and just about survived, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Oppenheimer (plus it was great in IMAX).
11. Gran Turismo
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this, not a perfect film by any means but an enjoyable trip.
12. Theater Camp
In an opposite to the previous, whilst fun I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped – there are some super funny jokes though.
13. The Haunted Mansion
I haven’t actually seen the original but as a Disney park fan I loved it.
14. Past Lives
Past Lives was my top film of 2023, I will definitely touch on this more in another post but I adored it.
15. The Creator
I had really high expectations from the trailer but unfortunately the film was just meh… great cast just not an amazing film.
16. The Eras Tour Movie
Did I go see this even though i’m going to the tour? Yes. Taylor killed it is all I really need to say
17. The Marvels
I actually really enjoyed The Marvels despite what others say, it was so so fun and felt more like a Marvel film than a lot of their recent stuff.
18. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
I already have a blog post on it but I loved it for the most part! excluding the few differentiations from the book.
19. Saltburn
If you don’t take it too seriously this film can be enjoyable! Despite being so controversial I still loved it.
20. Wonka
I don’t have tons to say but this was good! Timothee was great and that’s all really.
21. Priscilla
Priscilla is a gorgeous film, I wrote a post about it but it is visually stunning and so important
22. Wish
This was a very Disney film, I loved the animation style and the story was very good, I wish (haha) the songs were stronger though.
23. Anyone But You
I also have post about this but romcoms are back! I loved it
24. Ferrari
Unfortunately the most disappointing trip for me this year, I know many loved it but it didn’t click for me, will likely elaborate on that in a later post.
So that equals to 26 cinema trips in total!
I think I mentioned the words ‘loved’,’fun’ and ‘enjoyable’ so many times but it was a really good year for film and cinema!
