anyone but you

Often I find it can be hard to get a romcom right – but Anyone But You didn’t have that struggle.

At the end of the day, the romantic comedy genre isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s fun! and this film was exactly that. Not only did I enjoy it but I’m pretty sure everyone in the cinema did, I heard giggles at the romantic moments and laughs at the comedies and that’s all you want from these films – a fun time!

The film is a modern-day retelling of Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (which is the text I did in my GCSEs so it was fun to revisit the story I spent so much time studying). One of the elements I liked from this is that the quotes from the original text are scattered throughout the film – they didn’t just say it was a Shakespeare retelling and leave it there but actually referenced it throughout which was a nice nod to the original story.

I think by now most people know that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell have great chemistry and they were the perfect pairing for this film, but they were also surrounded by an amazing and hilarious cast plotting for the two to get together. The casting was so perfect for this film with the likes of Alexandra Shipp, Dermot Mulroney, GaTa, Darren Barnet, Hadley Robinson and more who all captured the family dynamics so well.

If you’re looking for a fun, steamy and cute film then this is the one for you! It’s so watchable (and definitely rewatchable) and I think is comfort film material – The trailer does definitely not do it justice but will still link it for your enjoyment:

p.s. Unwritten is now on repeat (iykyk)
