‘I am not the muse, I’m the somebody’
I fell in love with ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ a little over a year ago after reading ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’ by the same author. I’ve always loved the books by Taylor Jenkins Reid as the characters and stories are so real, you almost become a fan of them despite them not existing. However, luckily for me, Daisy Jones & The Six are now a real band with a real album!
Whenever it comes to a book adaptation, whether it is a film or a TV show, I am always a little bit nervous. You can absolutely adore a book and then see the adaptation and it ruins it a bit for you (*cough* Miss Peregrine’s *cough*). But from the trailers and teasers of this show I had already started getting my hopes up and alllll my friends knew about it (sorry guys). The casting was already perfect with Riley Keough and Sam Claflin starring as Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne alongside Camila Morrone,

But from the trailers and teasers of this show I had already started getting my hopes up and alllll my friends knew about it (sorry guys). The casting was already perfect with Riley Keogh and Sam Claflin starring as Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne alongside Camila Morrone, Suki Waterhouse, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse and Sebastian Chacon as Camila Dunne and the other members of The Six. This became basically every book lover’s dream adaptation.

When it came to it the show was released on Amazon Prime in 4 instalments, the first two showed 3 episodes each time and the last two showed 2 with 10 in total. Whilst some like to binge shows, I found this method perfect for this show as the book and it is important to experience the changes and problems the band experience from when they first got together until it all got too much at the very end and I feel if these episodes were binged you wouldn’t get the effect as much, each week gave you the chance to sit on those important moments for that week. The only criticism I have is although the show got so much more time than it would if it were a film, some moments still felt rushed and after learning it was supposed to be 13 episodes, I feel a bit sad about what we could have had.
In general, this show was a brilliant adaptation. Although there were many changes (some I originally felt mad about) I think the show stuck to the major and important plot points and by the end of the story, there were no drastic differences which is important to me and many others. The chemistry between all the characters especially Daisy and Billy was immense and it brought a new depth to the story that the book didn’t have and I loved being able to watch my favourite characters and band become a real thing was a pretty cool feeling.
As I mentioned earlier, the band even brought out their album ‘Aurora’ which was released on streaming but also on CD and vinyl. As a record collector, this was a pretty big deal for me and it’s super cool to physically own an album from a fictional band in a book you once loved. And now there are mentions of a tour so let’s manifest that!!
Whether you’re a book lover or not I suggest watching ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ it has perfect vibes, drama and an incredible cast!! The ’70s vibe and the music is also just amazing and whilst I initially didn’t understand the need for a season 2, I am now begging for one!!
Definitely go and check it out!
