What I Read in April

So the reading has slowed down a little since I’ve had so many assignments but I did still read some books in April! So here’s what I read:

‘When Women Were Dragons’ by Kelly Barnhill
This isn’t the usual book I would read but the synopsis sounded intriguing so I decided to give it a go – and I’m so glad I did.
The book is set in 1950s America when women would suddenly become dragons and is an insight into oppression and misogyny during this period of time but as the author said is still extremely apparent to this day. The story follows the protagonist, Alex, as she fights to follow her own path even though the odds are against her and how she manages to get there.
Overall, it was a very important read and a beautiful book about feminism in a way you’ve never seen it written about before.

‘These Twisted Bonds’ by Lexi Ryan
‘These Hollow Vows’ was one of my favourite books last year so I was very excited to read this one, and I wasn’t disappointed ….. well… I was but not for storyline purposes, just the guy I was rooting for.
I’m kind of gutted this is only a duology because I love these characters and I’m really curious about what will happen next. Maybe I can hope for a spin-off!

‘Heartstopper: Become Human’ by Alice Oseman
Does this even count? it’s a mini reimagining of a video game but with the heartstopper characters. Honestly, it’s cute and fun!

‘Taproot’ by Keezy Young
This is a super cute graphic novel which tackles death in a positive way, the illustrations are super cute and it’s about plants and ghosts so what’s not to love?

That is all from my slow reading month, I have a big pile of books to get through now so hopefully the next few months will start to pick up!
