What I Read in January

A lot happened in January but I still managed to read a few books! This is partly thanks to Netgalley but also partly thanks to the Waterstones hardback sale (thanks Waterstones love you!). I love to do reading summaries on this blog because It means every book I’ve read gets its time to shine, so without further ado, here is every book I read in January:

‘How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories’ by Holly Black
Ok, I’m gonna call this King of Elfhame for short, the book accompanies The Folk of the Air trilogy and is a series of stories about Cardan with stories from before the books began and moments from the series from his own perspective. I’d been meaning to read this ever since I finished The Folk of the Air series (you guys know how much I adore those books) so when I visited Waterstones for their sale I just had to pick it up. Although short, it was sweet, I loved revisiting the world I loved so much and it was a nice book to start the year with!

‘Selected Poems’ by Emily Dickinson
At the end of 2021, I fell in love with the show ‘Dickinson’ and straight away bought this book to read, in fact, this was the second time reading it as I decided to annotate it too. Emily’s poems are just so beautiful and I am so glad because of the show I was able to appreciate and enjoy these poems (also Emily and Sue <3)

‘Daughter of the Moon Goddess’ by Sue Lynn Tan
I am so so so grateful to Netgalley for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review because I fell in love with it! There is not a single boring moment in this book as it’s jam-packed with stunning imagery, complex characters and a badass protagonist (Xingyin was such a loveable character, I was always rooting for her). It was just such a perfect and loveable book and I’m so excited for the sequel

‘Loveboat Reunion’ by Abigail Hing Wen
Another big thanks to Netgalley for this book, I really loved Loveboat, Taipei and this book continues on from that, this time following Sophie and Xavier as they reconnect and accidentally organise a Loveboat reunion. The character progression is really beautiful to see and it was an overall enjoyable story (and was nice to finally revisit these characters)!

‘Six of Crows’ by Leigh Bardugo
So I started this book last month but actually finished it this month so you gotta wait for the review oops sorry.

Overall, this was a strong start to the year in terms of reading and I’m so grateful for the incredible books I got to read in January!
