It’s been a while…

Ok so it’s been a little while since my last post here, and the reasoning for that is… exams.
Yeah…
So it’s that time of the year where I get closer to finishing school but with that is exams, this year it’s all a bit different which actually means I have them a bit sooner than I would in a world where Covid doesn’t exist so the pressure is on! My actual exams are now about 6 weeks is away which means I may be a bit quieter on here over this period. Hopefully still creating some content, but definitely less than I hoped I would (because I really need to pass these exams).

Anyway, I am a book blog so I will talk a bit about books now…

Currently I am trying to read ‘Infinity Reaper’ the sequel to ‘Infinity Son’, I was hoping to read it pretty quickly and get the review posted on here. But I am finding it pretty difficult to get through, the first book I found ok and I saw potential for this one but its really taking me time to get through it and the narration switch between the multiple different characters in completely different scenarios in each chapter is really putting me off. I do want to finish it so i’m hoping I will eventually get that review out, and who knows? it may pick up and get me hooked later. These are just my thoughts from where i’m currently at.

I also had the pleasure of receiving an e-ARC of ‘Victories Greater than Death’ from NetGalley which is the first in the Universal Expansion Series:

‘Tina has always known her destiny is outside the norm—after all, she is the human clone of the most brilliant alien commander in all the galaxies (even if the rest of the world is still deciding whether aliens exist). But she is tired of waiting for her life to begin.
And then it does—and maybe Tina should have been more prepared. At least she has a crew around her that she can trust—and her best friend at her side. Now, they just have to save the world.’

One thing I really enjoyed about this book is the diversity included within it, the book is an epic sci-fi story featuring queer characters and characters from a range of ethnic backgrounds whilst in space – which is pretty cool. I also applaud the author’s decision to normalise pronouns within the story, when each character is introduced, they share their pronouns and I like how that is normalised throughout.

However, I did struggle to get into the story line at first as I felt like I was being thrown into scenes without much context behind them, or as soon as I was really getting into a scene it would cut to another. But, as the story went on, it got easier to follow.

I do recommend reading this book, especially if you like sci-fi! I don’t usually read sci-fi books but this was definitely a good introduction into the genre for me.
