‘The last thing Jacob Portman saw before the world went dark was a terrible, familiar face.
Suddenly, he and Noor are back in the place where everything began – his grandfather’s house. Jacob doesn’t know how they escaped from V’s loop to find themselves in Florida. But he does know one thing for certain: Caul has returned.
After a narrow getaway from a blood-thirsty hollow, Jacob and Noor reunite with Miss Peregrine and the peculiar children in Devil’s Acre. The Acre is being plagued by desolations – weather fronts of ash and blood and bone – a terrible portent of Caul’s amassing army.
Risen from the Library of Souls and more powerful than ever, Caul and his apocalyptic agenda seem unstoppable. Only one hope remains – deliver Noor to the meeting place of the seven prophesied ones. If they can decipher its secret location. ‘

The Desolations of Devil’s Acre is the sixth and final instalment in the ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ series; the six book series is split into two trilogies with the second following the children’s adventures in America. Now, to be honest I wasn’t as big of a fan of the second trilogy in comparison to the beginning and although I always look forward to the Miss Peregrine books, I was worried that I wouldn’t be satisfied with the ending and, like the other two in the second trilogy, would just not enjoy it as much.
However, I’m happy to say I was not left disappointed with the final novel. The series was ended in a nice way which I really liked, I was really intrigued with how the characters and story ended but was happily surprised by it and hopefully anyone else reading will say the same! I’ve seen a few requests for the story to continue, however, in my opinion, if Riggs decides to return to the peculiar world, I would like to be introduced to new characters and stories rather than following the same again. Perhaps a second ‘Tales of the Peculiar?’
One criticism I do have is (and you’ll probably be bored of my constant comparison’s) that the first trilogy really has an eerie and whimsical feel to it which the second definitely lost, it seems far more focused on adventure and just getting stuff done rather than the community and characters created. I really enjoy the tales and additional stories and all those parts were brushed over in this novel. (since this is a spoiler-free review I will refrain from elaborating more but if you’ve read it you may agree about the rather large character development that was brushed off pretty quickly at the end which could have made an awesome storyline).
But I will miss this series, It’s been my favourite for a good few years now and I have built quite the collection of books from it. I am sad to see the characters go but I definitely think now was the best time and way to end the series.
Has anyone else read the final instalment? Let me know in the comments!
