‘You don’t have to push me away, we can survive with each other and apart, I know that now…
but let’s face this together.’

Princess at Heart is the fourth instalment to the Rosewood Chronicles, following on from The Lost Princess as Lottie, Ellie and Jamie return for another year at Rosewood – still reeling from the discovery that someone close to home is the leader of the Leviathan, the group which is determined to take the princess down…
I can definitely say that ‘Princess at Heart’ is the best book in the Rosewood Chronicles so far and exceeded my expectations.
One thing that really stuck out to me was the character development, although we have known these characters from book one I really found that their personalities really shined through as we got to learn so much more about them. Which was complimented by the gripping plot, I found I struggled to put the book down as I kept wanted to know what was going to happen next especially with the plot really delving in to the past of one of the characters that we’ve all been waiting to read more about.
The complexity of the plot was compelling as you were able to work out the clues alongside the characters, I really enjoyed this element as I find often with stories you’re able to work out what’s happening way before the characters do but I didn’t find this with the story. Furthermore, there is more darkness to this book as it delves much more into relationships and feelings, allowing you to connect more with the characters and see how they have grown throughout the series. I think the books grow with the reader in a way, as they become more mature with each release. (I am really looking forward to the final one, at the same time it’ll be sad to see it end).
One thing I also wanted to mention was that each part of the story began with a painting, I chose to search up that painting before each chapter and I recommend you do too. It helps set the tone for the part and also introduces you to some really lovely works of art which I think is a lovely touch.
The book ends rather abruptly making you desperate for more as it leads on to the final instalment of the series which is exciting! I’ve been reading these books since I was about 14 so it’ll be bittersweet to see them end but I’m excited to see what Connie may have up her sleeves for the future!
I also just wanted to mention the beautiful tribute to Qinni at the end of the book, her work was so beautiful and so fit for the series and as Connie writes so wonderfully ‘I hope we can all strive in her name to bring a little magic into the world’.
